Details are provided in the following pages.

Here is a brief summary of the situation.

  • Open new post page in Safari on iPhone7 plus
  • I could type in the title.
  • When I try to enter text, I get “An error has occurred in this block and cannot preview.”and cannot type.
  • Disabling plugins one by one fixed it when I disabled Font Awesome.
  • Come to think of it, I had upgraded the Font Awesome plugin the day before.

So, due to an upgrade of the Font Awesome plugin, I can no longer enter the article body of a new post.

Updated contents of Font Awesome Ver. 5.0.0

The changes from Ver. 4.5.0 to Ver. 5.0.0 are as follows

  1. Enhance support for the Block Editor. Add icons as blocks or as inline Rich Text using the Icon Chooser. Icons added in the Block Editor using the Icon Chooser are added as inline SVGs, and can be visually previewed, styled, sized, and animated within the Block Editor. This works for pages, posts, and in the Full Site Editor.
  2. Improve Icon Chooser performance.
  3. Remove support for Font Awesome 3 icon names in the shortcode.
  4. Change minimum supported WordPress to 5.8.
  5. Change minimum supported PHP to 7.4.

The first item is suspicious as the cause of this trouble.

Up to Ver. 4.5.0, icons were selected by the Icon Chooser function.

Starting with ver. 5.0.0, a Font Awesome block for block themes has been added.Apparently, this is causing problems with the Gutenberg editor for smartphones.

First Aid Measures Font Awesome Plugin Disable

Once the Font Awesome plugin is disabled, the article is written.

However, when Font Awesome is disabled, the WPFront Scroll Top icon is no longer displayed.

This was an unacceptable phenomenon.

For now, use the WP Rollback plugin to revert to the old version.

The WP Rollback plugin allows you to select and install older versions as well as the latest version.

The word “Rollback” will be added to the list of installed plug-ins.You can select an older version and install it.In this case, I reverted Font Awesome to Ver. 4.5.0 to solve the problem.

Until the next version is released, Ver. 4.5.0 will continue to be used.

Musubi

The installation of the Font Awesome plugin Ver. 5.0.0.0 caused a problem with the New Submission page on mobile browsers.

I solved the problem by reverting to the old version with the WP Rollback plugin.

At first I couldn’t figure out the cause and went through a lot of trial and error, but finally I disabled the plug-ins one by one and figured out that Font Awesome Ver. 5.0.0 was the cause.

It is frustrating when something that was working normally suddenly stops working.I would like to learn from this incident and be careful when updating plug-ins.
