About the trouble of setting up this site

A very tall mountain with a sky in the background

In this article, I am writing about the problems that occurred on this site, which was launched at the end of 2024.The cause of none of them is clear, and I can’t assert any definite countermeasures because they were resolved when I reverted to the previous state.I hope this will be helpful to those who are having similar problems.

Category and archive pages do not work

The first was trouble with the categories and archive pages not working.

As mentioned in the post of the day, the problem was that the category and archive pages were not working and displayed the same content as the top of the blog.

At this time, when I reverted back to the parent theme, it worked fine, so I re-created a new child theme and sequentially reverted the changes.

It took a lot of work, but it has not recurred since it started working properly.

The page feed at the top of the blog does not work

The second problem was that the page feed at the top of the blog did not work.

This occurred yesterday during layout adjustments.

When I proceeded to paginate, the block moved to page 2, but what was displayed was the same content as on page 1. ‘/page/2’ directly did not work.

I am not sure what caused the problem, but I fixed it by undoing a few adjustments to the template layout. The problem did not recur when I reapplied the changes, and the site is now functioning properly.

As for timing, it seems to have occurred after moving the position of the page feed block.

Since the pagination block is not shown in the list of blocks, it is not possible to add a new one, and the cause and countermeasure remain unclear.

WordPress page feeds giving me trouble?

A Google search describes problems and solutions for WordPress page feeds. (Japanese site)

The embed code for the page navigation must always be placed above wp_reset_postdata();, wp_reset_query();, etc.The same applies even if you are using the “wp-pagenavi” plugin.

If you place it under wp_reset_postdata(); or wp_reset_query();, it will not function properly because it cannot retrieve post data.

Somehow I think this is the cause of the problem in this area, but I could not figure out how to fix it.

It seems to be fixed if I could delete the pagination block and add a new one, but I couldn’t try because pagination is not in the block list and I can’t add a new one if I delete it.

The block theme is easy to use, but…

I personally find block themes such as the Twenty Twenty Five theme easier to use, because you can structure your site with a combination of blocks, including site design and article creation.

However, we are unable to find the cause of these problems, and since the templates seem to be in the database and not in files, we are unable to pursue the cause of these problems.

I need to be a little more diligent.

In this article, we discuss the problems that have arisen since the launch of the site.

  • Category and archive pages no longer function
  • The page feed at the top of the blog stops working.

I have resolved the issue by re-creating the child theme and reverting the template version back to the previous one.We have not been able to find the cause of the problem, but when it recurs, we will take some more time to find the cause.
