How it started

The following article was published on February 26.

After installing Font Awesome plugin Ver. 5.0.0 in WordPress on iPhone7 plus (iOS 15.8.3), I am unable to create a new post.

When I dropped the Font Awesome plugin to Ver. 4.5.0, I was able to create new articles, so it was clear that Ver. 5.0.0 was having an adverse effect.

At this time, we also thought that this might be a problem caused by the old iOS.

(Post X in Japanese)

I have received my iPhone 16e and have once again verified this problem.

Unable to make new post (iOS 15.8.3)

With the iPhone7 plus unable to submit a new post, the screen will look like this.

This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.

I can type up to the title, but when I select the paragraph below it, it says, “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed” is displayed. The same message appears when I create a new paragraph.I am unable to create a new article because I cannot enter the body text.

This occurred in both browsers, Safari and Chrome; it did not occur in PC browsers, even when viewed in smartphone mode.

From these things, we surmised that this might be a problem that occurs with older iOS.

iPhone 16e (iOS 18.3.1) results are fine

I tried it on my iPhone 16e which arrived yesterday, no error occurred and I was able to create a new article without any problem.

Either Safari or Chrome will work.

Conditions under which trouble occurs

I wish I had more than one iOS version to verify this, but I don’t have them with me.

iOS Version15.8.318.3.1
Apple Webkit/605.1.1515.6.618.3
Safari Version604.1604.1
Chrome Version125.0.6422.80134.0.6998.33

The version of Safari was checked using the method linked below. (Japanese site)

Here are the results for Safari on iOS 15.8.3.

Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 15_8_3 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/15.6.6 Mobile/15E148 Safari/604.1

Here are the results for Safari on iOS 18.3.1.

Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 18_3_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/18.3 Mobile/15E148 Safari/604.1

The Safari version is the same, but the version after AppleWebKit is different.

We believe that this trouble occurs when the version of AppleWebKit is old.

Musubi

In a WordPress environment with the Font Awesome plugin Ver. 5.0.0 installed, an error occurred when trying to post a new article on an old iPhone.

This trouble occurs on older iOS, confirmed to be iOS 15.8.3.It does not occur on the new iOS 18.3.1.

If you are posting WordPress articles on an older iPhone, please note the version of the Font Awesome plugin.
